CEO Letter

Welcome to Our Web Site

Welcome, and thank you for visiting our website! I am very excited about having the opportunity to share with you, in just this small way, what a truly special place IDDI is.

On April 23rd, our beloved CEO, Charles B. Young, died unexpectedly.  As such, the Board of Directors was faced with the difficult task of deciding who would assume the responsibility of running IDDI.  The Board met shortly after Charlie’s death, and they chose to appoint me as Executive Director.

I am saddened to be in the position I am in - and yet I am also incredibly honored to assume such a role.  As Charlie’s partner for alnost 25 years, I saw firsthand the dedication he brought to his work, work that he began nearly three decades ago and continued doing up until the time of his death.  He was an advocate for the rights of his ‘kids’ here at IDDI; he always made sure that each child and adult was treated with the utmost respect and dignity.  My beliefs are the same, and I absolutely intend to carry on the work he began so long ago - with the same commitment, care and joy that he always brought to the job.

You may have noticed that I have chosen not to assume the title of CEO.  I strongly believe that title belonged to Charlie - not only because it so aptly conveyed his own journey at IDDI, but also because it represents, at least for me, the incredible growth of IDDI that occurred under his directorship - and so I plan to honor that by assuming instead the title of Executive Director.  I hope for the transition to be as seamless as possible, and I assure you there will be no dramatic changes in how IDDI is run.  As always, the needs of the individuals we serve, as well as their families, come first.  That priority will never change.  I thank our caring and professional staff for their commitment to this goal and for their support during this difficult, yet hopeful time.
Charlie’s death represents the end of an era, for IDDI has lost its visionary leader.  But with his death comes a new beginning - a time in which we can carry on his legacy, develop and accomplish new goals, and continue to enrich the lives of every individual we serve.
