IDDI
History

In 1953, a young graduate nurse began to care for high-risk infants with multiple handicaps in her home, attempting to provide an alternative to the sterile institutional environments that she had seen during her training and that were then the norm. Her home became their home, and that home evolved into the Crystal Springs School.

The subsequent years have brought phenomenal growth and change. With nearly 500 employees, IDDI has grown from operating out of one building, to our current 45 acre campus that includes a modern, specially-designed infirmary; a diverse rehabilitation facility for physical, occupational and speech therapy; residential homes; and several, well-equipped classrooms and adult day hab groups. We now offer two distinct programs for the children and adults we serve. These include the Crystal Springs School for children under 22 years of age and the Adult Program. Both programs have direct care support staff 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and a full spectrum of comprehensive support services. Through these changes, the warm and caring family-like environment remains the central feature of IDDI life.
