Kimberli Bettencourt

Kimberli A. (Lopes) Bettencourt earned a Masters degree in Intensive Special Education from Boston College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Intensive Special Education from Westfield State College. Ms. Bettencourt also attended Wheelock College and as a result earned her Director status with the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
For 20 years, Ms. Bettencourt worked at the Schwartz Center for Children, first as a Special Education Teacher and subsequently held the position of Day School Director for the last 13 years. Prior to work at the Schwartz Center, Ms. Bettencourt was a Primary Instructor at New Bedford Harbor Services, providing residential support to adults with significant disabilities. She was also a staff instructor for the Pioneer Developmental Center assisting adults with community involvement and recreation.
Ms. Bettencourt’s expertise is in the area of children and young adults with significant medical, multisensory impairments and deafblindness. She works specifically with public schools and other human service agencies servicing people with disabilities and speaks extensively on issues surrounding children and young adults with special needs, supporting families and assisting school programs. Ms. Bettencourt enjoys teaching and has taught courses for Wheelock College, Boston College and Bristol Community College as well as consultation and training to numerous child care centers in the Greater New Bedford area. |
