IDDI
Adult Program

IDDI's Adult Program promotes and encourages individual empowerment and personal growth by supporting life choices. The Program's guiding vision is "Supporting Adults to Success and Achievement," and is dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where people will be treated with dignity, care and compassion, while also receiving the support they need in order to reach their full potential.

In addition to comprehensive Medical Services and Clinical Services, the Program also includes Adult Residential Services, Community Support, and Day Habilitation, or the Assonet Bay Life Skills Environment (A.B.L.E.) program, designed to meet the needs of adults who require active habilitation, such as fine motor skills development, sensory skill development, cooking skills, and community inclusion.

IDDI's Adult Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), a national accreditation agency that provides independent assessments of human services agencies, and is certified by the Department of Developmental Services. Our third successful Survey and Certification by the Department of Developmental Services in March 2009 resulted in a two year certification.

Our Adult Program team is a collaborative, multidisciplinary team of professionals who share information on each adult and work closely together to ensure individualized choice, programs, and that overall supports are maintained. Whereas in the Children's Program the parent/guardian decision drives the identified growth of each child served, in the Adult Program, each individual is assisted in making his/her own decisions while understanding risk and choice, and each is encouraged to actively participate in the development of his/her support plan.

Our support team implements the same philosophical approach when working with the many agencies that are partnered with IDDI and works with others who fund, monitor, license, and provide resources to our individuals and programs. We strive to jointly develop new services that will deliver the most effective, supportive and successful care to the adults in our program.

The Adult Program team endeavors to support personal preferences and choices of individuals by:

  • Encouraging and supporting community membership/inclusion and activities while developing and maintaining friendships.
  • Supporting the continuous development of an individual's talent and contributions to the community, their home, and their friends and family.
  • Achieving increased independence to the highest degree possible.
  • Supporting and assisting individuals in the experience, pleasure, and responsibilities of everyday life.
